Conjurer in the Waves

I first saw them on a moonlit beach

A thousand fleeting faces foaming in waves

With every breath of the ocean

With each incoming wave

The faces sprayed aqueous messages

A call to action

Mediated by moonbeams

Our interaction shone light

Into places locked with emotion

Enigmas deep within me

Thundering collisions against rocks

Conveyed secrets of the sea

Secrets dispersed way before humanity took form

From the unfathomable depths

How we came crawling ashore

Emerging, evolving with every tidal surge

Each ripple resonant with codes

That speak to us if we’re ready to listen

A voice whispers in the tumult of the tide:

We’ve been waiting for you…

Syntactic splashes in the moonlight

Nature isn’t grammatical

It punctuates however it pleases

In rocks, trees and in water reside

Spirits seen only with childlike eyes

Etched into sunset stone

Nestling beneath mossy mattresses

Sculpted in grooves of wood

And appearing at the tip of a rainbow’s arc

Children see them everywhere

Babbling in brooks

Creaking in trees

Whistling on winds that scythe desolate moors

Eked into the contours of the landscape

So listen up

Communion is calling

Somewhere

Anywhere the sun can shine

Or the incandescent moon can illumine

The pearl of Dreamtime

Nature whispers messages

That dare me to be myself

To connect with a time when I frolicked with elves in the woods

When I saw magic kingdoms beneath toadstools

The adult mind may deem such things ridiculous

But the inner child knows

Of the fantastical realms co-existing everywhere

So next time you're on a moonlit beach

Take a moment

Stare into the waves

You may be surprised

By what your imagination is trying to show you

About Me

I'm Dave. A writer, artist, musician, builder and baker. When I'm not adventure travel writing and asking for shit cake in Peru (caca and coca are easily mixed up), I can be found pondering how to make stuff in the shape of a icosahedron. Ideas on a twenty-sided postcard please...
